God Speaks My Language

Lord,

Thank You that when I go to church, we will sing songs in a language that I understand. Thank You that the "worship wars" of past years were about which language to use. Thank You that they decided that it honored You to sing and pray in my mother tongue. Thank You that I will hear the pastor preach without having to spend most of his time translating what he read in a different language.

Thank You that today You speak my language. I don't have to learn a foreign one in order to read Your precious Word. Thank You for the faithful translators of the past who worked years and even decades so that we have this privilege today.

We pray for missionaries around the world today who are working to put Your Word into the language of the people. Give them wisdom to faithfully put Your sacred words into the local language so that they, too, will understand how truly great You are and what You did in creating the world and making a way for us to be saved. Give them accuracy as they delve into the meaning of the original languages so that heresy does not develop as a result of their translation. Keep them from putting their own biases into the text.

Even though the tower of Babel separated people into language groups, thank You that You have given people the ability to translate so that every people can know about You. Thank You that You have promised at around Your throne will be people from every tribe, language, people and nation. What a great and glorious day that will be!

Yet there is still so much work to do. More than 2,000 languages are still without a Bible in their own language. How will they hear unless someone goes to them? How will they understand until someone tells them in their own tongue?

Lord, raise up more translators from around the world. Let every nation reach out with Your word to those who have not yet heard.

For the sake of Your Name and Your glory,
Amen.
