Lord God,
It's brand new. That's what today brings. A brand new year. No sin. No spot. A sparkling clean new year. Every day is like that, but not every day is the first day of a new year. So we give You thanks for this brand new year full of opportunities.
Lord, we ask for a wonderful year. Not one without storms because we need to know that You are our Prince of Peace in the middle of all our storms. Not one with unending days of sunshine because we need the shadows and the rain in order to grow. Not one without sorrow or pain because we lean into You in special ways when times are hard and find Your strength enabling us to endure and move forward, in spite of our own inability.
If you will be the Prince of Peace in our storms, our Shelter in times of trouble, our Hope in times of despair, our Comfort when we are distressed, and our Shield from the attacks of the evil one, then our year will be a wonderful one. With Your strength and power, we can stand, move forward, fight, and grow strong so that Your righteousness shines forth from us like lightning in the midst of a storm.
Thank You for this New Year and for the hope You give of a wonderful year. Because of all the work You have already done on our behalf, we expect to see great things from You.
In the Name of the One who specializes in making new things, we give You praise,
Amen.
