Thank You for this day when we get to gather with other believers to worship Your name. While we can worship you alone or with just our families on other days of the week, today is the day when we come together to praise You as a body. My individual worship during the week whets my appetite for today's gathering.

Thank You for the freedom we have in this country to worship You. Some of our brothers and sisters in other countries are meeting under the threat of imprisonment or death. Lord, keep their faith strong. Help them to remember that You see and honor the faith they have to worship in spite of the threats again them. Remind them that You will hold their persecutors accountable for their actions. We pray, too, for the persecutors. Open their blind eyes to the folly of fighting You.
Thank You for a day when I can say to my work, "You are not my boss; God is." It's easy to let our work become a menacing master over our lives, never letting us rest from its demands. But a day spent in worship is a day when we can step back and remember who You are. You are the One who set the stars in their places. If you can do that, You are also the One who can help us get our work done. We do not have to bow to its demands today.
Thank You that today is a day when the rhythm is different. Its rhythm reminds me to rest in You, to relax in Your presence, and to enjoy the company of others who love You.
Thank You, Lord, for Sundays.
Amen.
