Lord,
As many people celebrate Halloween in the United States today, I am thinking of those who feel troubled or haunted. So I come in prayer for them.
Some people feel haunted by worthlessness and a lack of purpose. They feel unloved and maybe even ugly, and they don't know why You put them on this earth. They feel lost in the bustling whirl of humanity, and may even wonder why they are alive. Lord, show them why You made them. Show them how much You love them. Show them that no matter what they feel, You have not abandoned them. Give them a sense of purpose.
Others are haunted by past sins. Maybe they are still suffering from the consequences of what they have done. They may be wondering if they will ever again find the freedom they need to walk through life with a sense of Your approval. They need a deep understanding of Your grace. We do not earn Your love and forgiveness. We can only throw ourselves upon Your mercy and believe that the cross is sufficient for all of our sins. Help them to do that.
Some are haunted by failures - shattered dreams, failed goals, lost opportunities, and ruined relationships. Lord, don't let those failures define them. Instead, help them to stand up and try again. Failures can help us learn if we let them. If we didn't fail, we wouldn't need You the way we do. So teach us what we need to learn from our failures, and help us to believe Your promise that You will never fail us. You will always be there to help.
Lord, some may feel haunted or oppressed by evil spirits. Help them to surrender to You so that You can send away those evil spirits and replace them with Your Holy Spirit. If they want relief and do not find relief on their own, let them find Spirit-filled believers who will come alongside them to pray for them and seek their release from the demons that are oppressing them. Open their eyes to their need of complete surrender to Your Holy Spirit so that the demons know they are not welcome in their lives.
For all the haunted, I pray, asking that You fill them up with peace.
